CRDi Engine Problem - Swift Diesel

11/13/2010 8:31 PM

A CRDi diesel engine has its second cylinder piston burned in running. The tip of the diesel injector was found melted. A return flow test was done on the vehicle to check the injectors , ECU and wiring kit.

The half engine assy. was replaced along with new four injectors. While roadtesting after fitting the half engine, engine rpm increased suddenly. It continued to increase further evenafter switching off ignition and even after disconnecting battery.

Any idea?

2 nd injector bad. Diesel has no ignition. You shut down a diesel by cutting off the diesel flow in/to the injection pump. Once it runs, a diesel needs no battery, other than to shut it down if the stop has an electric clutch. Your injection pump needs service. How is the smoke? Color?

It continued to increase further evenafter switching off ignition and even after disconnecting battery

its auto dieseling ie its consuming engine oil only way to stop it is to block off air intake

if injector tip melted the timing was way out.

I agree with Peter's diagnosis.

If the ignition switch will not stop it, then it is still burning something - either fuel, in which case the fuel solenoid has died, or oil - probably sump oil is getting into the induction system.

The most common source of oil in the induction system is a leaking turbocharger oil seal - increasing rpm means that the leak is becoming rapidly worse.

Another source of oil is the piston rings, or a gasket - compression test the engine.

Bill
