Windows 7 Video Problem

11/15/2010 9:22 PM

I am having problems watching videos on my laptop, gateway 6 months old with windows 7 and upgraded to professional to handle older programs. Video downloads plays about half way through and quits. Says it is buffering but does no more. Geek squad said use fire fox, but same problem exists. I have searched high and low on the internet, this forum is my last hope.

Thanks in advance!!

Have you checked your cache settings under tools-general-browser history-settings. There you can take your cache as high as 1024MB. You may be hitting your limit and for some reason IE/Firefox just might be holding the cache rather than releasing it for new info. I havent tested this therory but its worth a shot.

Download the video you want to watch and play from HDD instead of playing in the browser. In case you would have to pay for it you are watching the wrong videos.

Check for malware, stay away from dubious sites. While you wait for the video to finish playing they might use your computer/bandwith to exchange files.

Lots movies use different player so update to the latest player (also avoids exposure to bugs in there!)

Good luck!

I have these sorts of problems from time to time, with say utube videos

I have much better success by pausing the player & come back to it once the whole thing has loaded. The problem is worse when all my neighbors are also using their computers say right after supper time

If you want to use firefox, google how to speedup firefox. It will tell you how to tweak it. Download VLC player. It can play lots of video format. Check firefox addons and it will help you.

Clear the cookies & caches by going to IE's Internet Options and in General TAB. Delete cchees & Temporary File.

Sometime IE may be running from old Tep files
