Parallel operation of multiple Gen-Sets

03/20/2007 6:34 PM

We have five 23MW dual Fuel Gas turbines tied to a common bus through a main-tie-main scheme which all have load sharing lines and Var controller which works great. We also have two Diesel 5.4MW Gen sets which run in parallel with the above T-Gens, we do not however have load sharing lines between the Gas Turbines and Diesel Gen Sets due to distance .

We currently run the turbines and diesel gen-sets in Base Mode (Kilo-Watt control), which means we run the diesel machines at a fixed KW setpoint.

Does anyone know of an efficient way to run load sharing lines a distance of 750 feet. Maybe some kind of fiber coupler????

There are devices available that use CAN for load sharing and can be run quite far. Check out www.comap.cz. I have used the Inteligen devices, and they're really good. There is a way of connecting these via LAN aswell - making distance less of a problem. They also have really good control software - allowing control of your entire gen plant from one PC, and also via the Internet.

Regards

John

Take a look at spread spectrum rf links (manufactured by Elpro et al). Should be inexpensive and reliable.
