Thermal Reflections Solar Panels

11/17/2010 6:29 AM

These 8 kg panels filled with refrigerant appear to be the absorber end of a heat pump.

Does anyone have any experience with them ? What stops them overheating?

Link is www.thermalreflections.co.uk

Presumably imported.into UK and touted as the new wave.

What will over heat them in the first place? you do know how the heat pumps work, so where to you think it can overheat?

I am as such experienced as I have a Solar Hot Water system. When the Water is hot there is nowwhere to go for teh heat. So the system gets hot and rids itself of engery via the usual ways: Radiation and convection.

One should install a relief valve to prevent the system from bursting. Other than that

what was the question again ....?

Quote, 'By using a refridgerant gas in the panels rather than water they can easily work summer or winter, sunshine or rain' end quote.

This sounds like an excellent company - to stay far away from!

I see no way they can do what they advertise - plus being a bit on the stupid side with spelling on their site. In the summer you are trying to dump heat - how could the panel be efficient doing that?

There is also the question of the panel freezing up surely, a problem that can happen with air source heat pumps

By that I mean getting coated on the outside with a layer of frozen moisture which would inhibit heat transference
