Gold is too expensive.

Copper is a good conductor.

Most ground rods these days are actually copper-clad steel: copper for the conductivity and steel for the strength when you drive them into the earth. If you tried to drive a solid copper rod, in many cases it would look like a pretzel before you got done.

Hi, All

For installation of grounding rod or grounding system, check with your local requirement or NEC code of practice.

Due to its conductivity and corrosion resistant properties.

Australia went to stainless steel some time ago. Usually installed with a salt absorbent.
