Wire Specifications

03/21/2007 11:04 AM

I am trying to find information regarding Standard Wire Gauge (S.W.G) and have hit a brick wall. What I am looking for is the wire gauge, diameter, max voltage + current and any other data over the spectrum of various size gauges. Can anyone help me?

There are two things that give the amp rating of a specific wire size. One is the size and the second is the temperature rating of the insulation.

When you see two amp ratings for the same size wire, then it is the insulation that is the difference.

Most major manufacturers have charts that give these ratings. The amp ratings will vary by manufacture.
