11/28/2010 2:25 AM

Sir,

I am M.C.Murugesan and I have 1 year experience in a wind mill project in which the old wind turbine was rebuilt and run as a new machine. I have done commissioning work in which I have done trouble shooting the faults in the machine. I want to work in design field to do some innovative things. I can join as a design trainee of a package of Rs.10000. I do not know, in which design field I can go with this experience. I also don't know ,what are the design opportunities in electrical field and how to get it.Please help me with your valuable suggestions for my career.

To work as a design engineer one need to have a good understanding of relevant international as well as local standards. For example for a A.C design engineer one should be families with ASHRAE or ISHRAE standards. You can apply for a reputed engineering consultancy firm. Start your carrier as a trainee . Learn experiences from each project you are handling. Continuous Professional Development ( CPD) is another powerful tool to keep your professional knowledge up to date. All the Best.

Dear Mr. M.C.Murugesan,

Kindly read your own question with free mind and you will realise that Two very vital things are missing in your question i.e. you have not mentioned your qualification and you have not mentioned where you are located presently. Untill you inform your qualification & location I believe no one give a satisfactory answer.

Having experience in a wind mill project in which the old wind turbine was rebuilt and run as a new machine; is somthing like a hot cake, specially if you are graduate Mech./Electrical engineer. It is great to go for work in design field to do some innovative things, for that you have to be in touch with Wind Turbine Manufacturers.

I presume you are presently in India. You must be aware that Suzlon and GE have announced to establish R&D facility in India.

Alternatively, you can approach Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) Chennai, they are poineer in all aspects of Wind energy technology trainings including Wind Turbine/Machine Designs.

Their course coordinator is Mr. P Kanagavel,

Adress: Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET),

Velachery-Tambaram High Road, Pallikaranai, Chennai-600 100 (Tamil Nadu)

Contact No. 044-6459 3828/2246 3985,

Best of luck-

Dr N P singh

It seems you have a B.Tech or a diploma in Electrical Engineering (EE). In principle, As a fresh graduate/ graduate with one year field experience you can easily fit into any desgn field traditionally meant for EEs.But your interest/aptitude etc., play big role on how innvovative you could become in a given field. So try to identify your interest, strengths, limitations. If you find work on wind turbines interesting, you may contact companies in wind energy generation business eg., Suzlon, Indowind etc., Don't fix your package yourself, though I understand the figure you mentioned could be bare minimum for your survival.
