Manufacturing

Manufacturer of ABS carrying cases, exploring "state-of-the-art" bonding agent as a replacement for current solvent - would like a "Green Solution". Does anyone have any suggestions / experiences?

If you're already using ABS (non green material) then why not use thin moulding technology to make an ABS hinge or feature on the part?

Otherwise I'd look into fasteners made from "recycled" material with decorative features that can be recovered and recycled after the item lifecycle is completed. This means that the ABS and the fasteners can be easily separated for material recovery and neither is contaminated by adhesives.

Look at total lifecycle, not just a "green" produced item, but its impact across all of society and time.

Check out vibration welding, ultrasonic welding or, if it's just attaching hinges mold a pocket and push the hinge plates in place with a press. You could put some "barbs" on the plates to capture them.

I'm off for home now.

Bye.

The strongest most state of the art bonding agent in the world is a sylil modified polymer, it comes in tube form for gap guns or in sausages for air guns, it will stand several hundred degrees C and two pieces joined are 100 percent water proof, run over with a 5 ton truck, still water proof. Whilst it is not a listed product on our site, we do import it for our own use. Green it is not, however, remanufacturing/replacing broken items is also not green as noted by another user. term of life is as important.

yes sorry about that I tend to type too fast and not read my dislexic writing.

The best manufacturer of the product is Bostick, it is what we use, there are several licence manufacturers however not all are as good, we had problems with the Australian version of the product

Ultra sonic welding or heat staking work well in the auto industry.
