Alternator Base Insulation Pad

12/01/2010 5:53 AM

Why Insulation sheet is put under alternator base and foundation bolts on exciter(or main terminal block) side only. The earth fault can even pass to ground from the base frame of alternator of turbine side and ,even from turbine base frame also as turbine is coupled with alternator.

Yes, u are right sir alternator base is installed on the top of insulation sheet.but only on exciter side only or both sides of alternator base.As alternator is coupled to turbine, which is not insulated at the base, From here (turbine base side) fault current can be grounded know.why only exciter or boths side of alternator is only insulated

Rotor is coupled with turbine. Power is in stator side only.
