How to Select a Power MOSFET

12/11/2010 11:09 AM

A few days ago, after a thread had otherwise ended (Want FET Which Can Give ID as 5A), I spent a few hours composing a detailed post on the subject, How to select a power MOSFET.

Rather than simply sending someone off to a few manufacturer's websites, this post shows in detail how an experienced engineer (me) would go about selecting a power mosfet for a simple on/off power-switch design. Please follow the link, I'd appreciate seeing your comments.

Yup, looks good to me.
Availability and price is vital as you say.
How many times have we found just the part which will do what we want only to find it's outlandishly expensive, out of stock, or only available surface mount, when you want through hole.
So you have to design some cunning alternative or let the software work around the problem.
It's like I tell trainees... "Electronics is easy... in theory".
Del
(UK readers should beware of one of the big distributors Near-Nell who show stock, but there's a tiny note saying 'US stock', which means it's three weeks away and only if you want 108 ... slight exag...)

Very good, useful, comprehensive and nicely weighted for ALL factors.

But I already gave you a GA for the original so ......
