Fiber Optic Routing

I'm trying to route, Fiber Optic Cable(24Core) from one equipment to another but the distance is 36 KM. I believe one drum(is it in in drum also?) of Fiber optic cannot cover this, so how can I connect two sets of cables to accommodate the 36Km length required?

Depending on your application you may also need a fibre optic repeater given the distance you are trying to run.

Consult your equipment and fibre optic cable specifications to see if this is the case.

I assume you will be using a single mode fiber for this application. I also assume you will be ordering armored cable. Becasue of the distance you must use fusion splicing for this application. You will need more then one of the fusion splice enclosures becasue you will not be able to buy one 36Km reel of fiber optic cable. Google how the fiber optic cable is made and you will know why. I strongly suggest hiring certified fiber optic cable installer for this job. After installation you must test the cable!

Hint: contact FO cable manufacturer to find out how many reels of the cable there will be to cover 36km. Order appropriate number of fusion splice enclosures and accessories accordingly or leave that to you cable installer.

I understand that you are using Single Mode Fiber 24 Core for Telecom Purpose. Normally Optical Fiber Cables are available drums of 2, 4 KM lengths. It is standard practice to lay underground by trenching and lay HDPE duct of 40 mm outer diameter and blow the cable 24F through the 40 mm HDPE duct. You have to provide Hand Holes for pulling, splicing. It is very difficult to lay 36 KM length of OF cable. So you need 9 drums of 4050 meters length to cover your full route with some allowance for trench losses.

So you have to use four drums of 4 KM each. These drums are available from any reputed Optical Fiber Cable Supplier.

If the application for LAN, it is standard to use MM (Multi Mode Fiber) which can not be used and limited to the distance of 2000 meters. Hence I assume you application is for telecom application.

There are multi-fiber fusion splicing machines on the market. It would probably be to your advantage to seek a splicing contractor with the appropriate equipment, rather than trying to do this yourself. 36 km most likely will not require a repeater, unless you are doing some really exotic high volume data transfer. A splicing contractor can help you with splice enclosures, etc. Your local telephone company can possibly help you identify a contractor (or, possibly, even offer to do the job as a contractor for you). Your cable supplier may be able to recommend a contractor, or you could contact a manufacturer of fiber optic fusion splicers directly for a recommendation. If you would like specific product information (I used to work for one of the fusion splicer manufacturers, but no longer have commercial interest in this field) send me a PM and I will try to give you more specific information.
