Distances between equipment in an Oil & Gas facilities

03/26/2007 1:24 AM

Dear all,

Would you advise me about the standard distances between the equipment inside An oil & gas plant. Also, concerning the storage area of a stable condensates.

Do the protection equipment such as cooling rings, fire detectors, etc... reduce these distances?

Regards,

Read your CEC or NEC for the distances between electrical equipment and other equipment The CEC has 1Meter minimum from the open drawn out position.

There are different legal requirements in different jurisdictions. There are also 'recommended good practices' . The US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Publication 40 is a good reference and the legal basis in many jurisdictions.

Also, Insurance companies have underwriting requirements for 'extreme hazard' type situations. There is not a simple, single answer. As in so many things--it depends--on the details.

Fire detection and leak detection equipment can change spacing requirements. Often, Oil Companies will have internal specifications/requirements for equipment spacing---such as 'any pump moving a material above its autoignition temperature shall be at least 5 feet outboard of any overhead pipe-way, air cooler, or electrical /instrumentation raceway AND will have automatic fire detection and sprinkler facilities installed.'

several different codes and regulations apply depending on where you are geographically. In the US OSHA is probably the one I would start with, continuing with NFPA, etc.
