Reading Downloads - Meter Readings

01/04/2011 2:37 AM

I need to download the meter readings remotely using my Desktop, Itegno Modem and a cellphone nr.At first it wasn't a struggle, then suddenly the Modem couldn't read the readings or even reach the meter destination and an error display was sent to my Desktop.

I have now decided to use a USB to RS232 to achieve the same function, but i am wondering if there will be hiccups in future.

Is there a better way or should I just keep on? and what could have been the reason for a dysfunctional modem?

Thanx

Another hiccup?....First check your UART bits, comm port, BAUD rate, parity, stop bit, etc.

Thanx, the baud rate is 9600 -at least I am aware of that.

I am also aware of the comm port (how to check on a PC as to which comm port is the modem connected to), but as for parity, stop and UART bits - there is an extent amount of info on Google, I still have to educate myself.

I think you need to tie in a digital data logger. I have one installed on my meter located next to the PV Solar System inverters......works without flaw and able to download the produced "juice" data in virtually any config I desire.

Good luck!

When you setup the USB to RS232 look out for windows changing the COM port settings from time to time, don't know why but it does.
