Sigh.

The operating temperature inside the combustion chamber will vary wildly. The operating temperature of the exhaust manifold will be very hot. When the intake manifold has a vacuum, the operating temperature will be slightly below most of the engine parts. The operating temperature of the alternator will be above ambient temperatures. The coolant temperature in the block will rise until reaching the melting point of the wax in the thermostat. Then the radiator cooling will attempt to keep this fluid at not much more than this temperature.

You need a 180° F thermostat, that's probably all you need to worry about.

Hi Farmer steve this is a very good engine an a thermostat 180° - 190° is what is needed to allow the emissions equipment to fuction properly and you'll gain fuel economy too.
