Conveying Elbow Pipes

01/10/2011 8:48 PM

Dear sir,

I would like to get your advice on conveying elbow pipes ranging from dia 8" to 30" and joint pipe length is max 12m. I would like to convey them in automatic system along its fabrication process. Upon my basis understanding, the elbow pipe cannot be conveyed by a conveyer. Is it right? Kindly let me get your advice how they should be moved with less manual work.

Thanks,

Kotuu2.

Conveyors are not my field, but I have visited factories where motor cars and light trucks are moved using conveyors. I am sure that someone could design you a chain driven conveyor with "buckets" to cary your pipe elbows. (Or even an overhead chain with hooks to support the pieces in front of operators.)

Your challenge will be trying to automate any other portion of the process.

Depends on what your going to do to them as they are moved along the conveyor. If your needing to machine them, then a pallet fixture and chain systems will need to be developed. If all you want to do is move from point A to B then a good troughing belt conveyor would do. As you see there is not enough information in your request for help to help you much.

Yes they can be conveyed on a live roller conveyor. With out a better idea of the process involve it is difficult to give advice. They maybe better conveyed slung on an over head conveyor. As on tramrail. As that would be a great reduction in floor space over a conventional type conveyor.

Dear all,

Do thank for your all kind advice. Pls let me add in more info here.

I am now trying to help in movement of elbow pipes along pipe fabrication line. The problem is the space is very limited in width (approximately 1.5m). Raw pipes and elbows will be moved along 60-m workshop length since all welding sections are set in workshop's length.

My thinking is that it may be helpful to my workers if a mechanized movement system is installed. It may become less job, less effort and more safety for them.

If I use a roller type conveyer, straight pipe movement is fine but not for elbows.

Should I use a trailer with a tracking system?

Thanks again,

Kotuu2.

Note : Pipe dia range is 8" to 30" and max length is 12-m after joined.

If you have one welding booth, think of over head crane attached with special magnetic clamp.
