M.Tech / M.S

01/17/2011 1:21 AM

I am from Bangalore, Karnataka, INDIA...

Recently i completed my B.E in Electrical & Electronics & now i am working in Electrical Machine design field...

I thought of doing my post graduation (M.Tech or M.S) with corespondance in Electrical Machine design.... my friends told that, first preference given to Regular Students rather than Corespondance students... is it True???

with regards,

Sham...

I don't have any idea but logically if only this point is considered, regular student will always be benifited.

I think so because regular student invests more time and money and hence considered more dedicated.

but in general I don't think this can be the only point of consideration.

Educational background, experience, personality, grades, requirement of the company and your luck on the day of interview..... all are key factors...

Hi guest,

I too, do not know whether your friends are correct or not. What I do know is that the correspondence course route is not the easy option and employers should look on you favourably because you had the self-determination and drive to complete the course on your own. The easy option is to go to college and be spoon fed.

If you are worried that a potential employer will look unfavourably on a correspondence course, don't mention that fact in your CV. State only the course title, the name of the institution where the course was offered and your result. The CV is a way of highlighting your skills, experience and education in order to get short-listed for a face-to-face interview. You can be truthful in an interview but again if you are worried that it would be unfavourable, practice a good answer to the question, one that highlights why you did a correspondence course and all the extra skills that you gained by doing it this way (e.g. time management, research skills, self-reliance, etc.)

Hope that helps, AJ
