hi im studying ME automotive engineering in coimbatore. i have done my ug in BE electrical and electronics engineering. how could i improve myself in the basics of acadamics and extra skills to get recruited by industires
Work experience in a relevant engineering field (etc) helps a lot and from my experience can get you a job over others with little to no experience. To a lesser extent a well written CV and good interviewing skills to help.
Additional things to look at are job specialisation. If you have a certain specialised job position or specialised engineering field you are really wanting to apply for then taking a short course/distance learning, etc on specialised subjects relating to that position/field can increase your chances of getting the position over others who do not have that specialised training. This can make all the difference when applying for some jobs.
Is there any specific software to be known as an automotive engineer?
No, but knowledge on training on drawing and 3D modeling software would likely be of use if you are looking at a job in the engineering, design or CAD departments.
I am not sure what drawing and 3D modeling software packages automotive companies use, but it is probably the same (or similar) ones used in other mechanical engineering industries (AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc).
Most of the automotive suppliers and the OEM that I worked for required Catia experience. It is similar to SolidWorks and ProE but has much higher capabilities when working with complex and smooth surfaces that the stylists like to use.
Show some extracurricluar activity and be hands on. Theory is great but in general they want to make sure that you can build , install and repair the part you designed to make sure you understand the full impact. And of course be good in accounting as cost is an ever present part of the designer job.
me: 15 years in Automotive design including 5 years at Honda R&D in Columbus Ohio.
