Clarity of Websites

01/21/2011 8:40 AM

Do people that make websites ever read their website? Try finding "Subscribe" on this website. I know my eyes are decaying, but not that bad.

Sometimes, when filling out a form on line, I encounter lines that are so dim that I have to click my cursor several times to find where to start the text.

Make something functional before trying to make it cute.

Do people who complain about web sites ever read them? There, it's right in front of your face, just look for it.

Find something real to whine about.

How About Clarity of Posts?

Have you ever tried to make sense of something when an acronym is used but not defined?

PAPADOC, your closing acronym has been used 22 times at CR4, and you are the only person who has ever used it here. Acronym finders return things that seem to make no sense. I might be daft, but I don't know what it means. Should I know? Should all of CR4 know?

"RMFR" means "Ride, My Friend, Ride". It's something I encourage my friends to do. When one gets a little up-tight, go take a ride on whatever you have to ride. It may be a horse, bicycle, or maybe, just your feet. It's very therapeutic. Whether I'm up-tight or not, it's very comforting for me to get on my old Harley and go for a ride. And, of course, I sometimes stop by "Wheels" and sip a few. Some people interpret "RMFR" a little different. They use two other words for "MF". The meaning is still the same. This also applies to another acronym I often use. I use "AMF" which means "Adios, My Friend".

I'm surprised it showed up 22 times.

Have some fun today,

PAPADOC,

Web pages can look/function poorly because of the design choices, browser rendering anomalies, or display variations. I have designed a few simple pages/sites and one of the more difficult tasks is verifying/tweaking the pages to look the same on different browsers and monitors. While I have seen many web pages that are poorly designed (for any browser/monitor), this one looks fine and the subscribe button is fairly obvious to me.

I'm currently using the Firefox browser (for Ubuntu Linux) on an old (Aug2003) P4 with a relatively new (Dec2009) LCD monitor.

Which browser are you using?

What type and how old is your monitor?

Thanks so much for your explanation. I looked up CR4 on another, fairly new, computer, and the "subscribe" showed up pretty good. However, it could have been brighter. I use "Google" as my browser. My monitor is over six years old, so, I guess I better get another one. I'll try to get a bigger one since my sight is fading. If I have any left over from my SS check, I'll get one. Thanks again for helping this "whiner".

Have some fun today,

At the top right corner of the Google browser window are some parameter adjustment tools ZOOM or magnification may assist you. In the set-up of the monitor adjust the contrast, resolution, etc. to display to your liking
