Open source plastic molding technology

01/28/2011 2:46 AM

Plastic injection molding technology today is not much different than when the technology was originally patented in 1956. That means its subjective, expensive and out of reach, financially and technologically, of so many who need to use it. To bring plastic molding technology to more of those who need to use it, we are offering a low cost platform based on open source technology that is quite interesting and effective. We have a project posted on Kickstarter.com explaining the MYOS (make your own stuff) concept and you can follow this link to see it http://kck.st/hwI5ZZ or you can visit our web site at makeyourownstuff.org. Let us know what you think...

Hello there,

I went to the Kickstarter website. It is an ideal avenue for many designers. It will help that, if there is general recognition of the merits of your idea you will see the result in direct backing in real cash purchasing.

One particularly awesome design for a I-Pad or Kindle type tablet device can be seen under 'design'. Go to the site and at the bottom left of the page click on design and view the video etc for this product.

The inventor needed $10,000 in pledge money to get funding in one month to produce the part. He had $54,450 in pledges when I viewed it. There is acceptance for some ideas immediately and this seems to be one. The industrial design is beautiful and the function and of course slick advertising makes it a winner and thus the level of funding outstrips the initial goal.

I think it is worth a look.

Good topic OP.
