RT For Thickness 32mm In PV-Elite

01/30/2011 9:50 AM

Dear experts

thanks in advance for your kind attention,
My problem is:
table UCS-57 saye that for material P-NO.1 GR.1,2,3 for above 1 1/4 inch or for equal metric unit 32mm shall be full RT.Problem is if you work in PV-Elite 1 1/4 inch PV dont show any warning about UCS-57 but if you select metric unit(32 mm) PV suggest you full RT,
We are vendor and this comment has for us so much cost.I know the limitation for PV is 1.25*25.4=31.75mm but UCS-57 says that above 32mm(in the same row of 1 1/4").
We can use spot RT for exactly 32mm whitout regarding PV warning.Isn't true?
you assume that 32mm was resulted from combind load or some else(it was not governed from pressure).
I hope to have your reply very soon.

Kind Regards,
M.Maleki

Just because we use a software to make design a little easier and quick, doesn't mean we don't have to know the code...

tanks for your kind help, but what is your suggestion?

We have to use full RT regarding that thickness.

this comment is about conflict between ASME code and software.

We need your good judgeship.

Reworded ~ RT For Thickness 32mm In PV-Elite

01/31/2011 10:39 AM

For the sake of others here , who likewise might have difficulty interpreting your dilemma ... I assume the question is this:

Table UCS-57 [ASME VIII, Division 1 (Subsection C)]says :
for material [P-NO.1 GR.1,2,3]
above 1-1/4" (or 32mm) full RT is required.

Working with PV-Elite 1-1/4" doesn't show any warning about UCS-57, but if you select the equivalent metric unit (32 mm) the program suggests full RT.

We are a vendor and providing full RT imposes great additional cost at our end.

I know the limitation for PV is 1.25*25.4=31.75mm ... but UCS-57 says that above 32mm (in the same row of 1 1/4") we can use spot RT without concern for the PV warning. (?) Is this True or False?

___________

You have NOT given a clear picture of exactly what the end product is , being dealt with here, and that will create lots of confusion, and conflicting answers. By the same token, you refer multiple times to that "reference thickness" per the Table, but you do NOT state clearly what YOUR material thickness IS.

Likewise, from that old "for what it's worth department", MY spontaneous-initial response would be:

If you are the vendor, ask your buyer/Client what THEIR requirements would entail.

Get the requirements in writing, price accordingly and do it right the first time.

Wishing you well ~
