Government Power vs Generator Usage

01/31/2011 10:57 AM

I use a 250Kva diesel generator. I pour in a 200 litres of diesel at a time, and i have to turn off the generator when there is government power supply. I want to be able to calculate the time i use diesel in between switching from generator to government power supply. Thank you.

I don't see a question.

You would think a diesel generator that size would have a hour meter on it for maintenance scheduling.

You take a wall clock and you supply its gear via a relay which cuts supply (from a battery for instance) as long as government supply current. On the display the number of indicated hours is the time your generator did work. You have a switch to start the clock when you start the DG. When you stop the DG you use the switch to stop the clock even if gov supply is on if your DG is off.

These can be had for about $20 and most of them run on a broad range of voltage..

Just give it power

Gonwin,

This is simple, use one electrically operated hour meter and getting start signal through the generator main breaker. Now you can note down the hour meter reading when you apply the diesel and monitor the generator running hour than you will come to know when do you want refill the diesel.

Old model Dg Sets had RPM-cum-Running hours meter which gets the drive through

a cable . The recent versions these hour meters are electrically driven and will

operate when the set runs when the key position is on. But with Auto-Start systems

you should keep the On / Off starter key in off position so that the hour meter will

not run. Once the systen starts in Auto mode the hour meter will run and stop

when the set gets switched off.
