Apacs Moore PLC

02/01/2011 2:03 AM

I have a SAM (standard analog module) and I need to know if this is possible.

We have an FIT in the field that has its own independant 24v power supply. Can we terminate the 4-20mA signal coming from the FIT onto this SAM card straight or do we need to put in a 250 ohm resistor?

Or will this even work, do we need to use a VIM card

If you use a 250 ohm resistor for other 4-20mA analog signals to that analog input card, then you need a resistor for this channel, too.

You might find when connecting this analog signal that it is either offscale up or offscale down or that connecting it affects other signals on that analog input card. This can happen when an analog signal is powered from another electrical source at a different ground potential. Connecting such a signal to an analog input card forms a ground loop. If that happens then you need a 4-20mA signal isolator module which 'breaks' the ground loop.

Carl,

I do not have a direct answer for you but have you given Moore/Siemens a call for support? 1-800-333-7421 I have always found they are very good at supporting their equipment...

Cheers,
