All Time 4 Wheel Drive

02/06/2011 9:19 AM

How far is this useful for regular road travel. for 4WD is more suitable for terrain and off road travel. Is this not a mere mis use of technology and wasting of energy and resources.

You must live in a climate that never experiences winter. Just because you've never experienced a need for any technology doesn't mean that that technology is wasting energy and resources.

The last time I looked there were thousands of vehicles being produced with two wheel drive. Buy one of those and do your part to save world.

I have a full sized, 4 door pick-up that I drive to work every day, alone. So, even though it is 2 wheel drive, I am wasting energy and resources. But it comes in very handy and is quite practical when I have the wife and 3 boys in it with me and am pulling a boat or trailer.

It just depends on your needs, too.

Try this in your two wheel drive grocery getter and then realize how many drive in similar condition everyday.

Hope none of the respondents are related to technology. If people are trying to misquote for technical request its better they stay out of such tech blogs. If one can clarify the question through the discussions it is wise enough. FRIENDS THIS FORUM IS TO UNDERSTAND AND LEARN TECHNOLOGY BETTER. Recently i heard from a person that AWD is for excellent braking!!! Hilarious people are around us. Please do understand clearly and request people with technical clarity to answer: Do we really need a AWD or Full time 4WD on regular roads?? BECAUSE WE USE MANY TECHNOLOGIES FOR THEY ARE AVAILABLE WHERE THERE IS NO REAL NECESSITY. LIKE FIXING UP A HEATER TO A REFRIGERATOR 1) What is the power & energy loss that is wasted in when using an AWD or full time 4WD. (IS IT NOT BETTER TO HAVE A DUAL DRIVE INSTEAD WHEN ON REGULAR ROADS AND SHIFT TO AWD WHEN ESSENTIAL) 2) Is it advisable to travel on AWD at higher speeds considering the transmission basics of AWD or 4WD. I AGREE THAT AWD / 4WD IS BEST SUITABLE FOR ROUGH TERRAINS. NO DOUBT THAT

Of course this line of thought can also be correct but begs the question if under condition not beneficial is it not the consumers debacle?

Is there something similar here?

Man builds himself a box (house) and heats it.

Then inside this box he places another box, and he cools it (refrigerator).

Then inside this box he builds another box and he heats it (to smear butter).

Is this what you are referring to about wasting energy?

Is this not a mere mis use of technology and wasting of energy and resources.

For a vehicle to not fall over all that is needed is 3 wheels. So all 4 wheeled vehicles are wasting energy and resources. For that matter you can balance on 2 wheels to get around. Hell if you are so concerned about wasting energy and resources, get a unicycle and pedal your butt off.

You mean something like this. I still say that this will be a bitch on ice and snow.

Not exactly what I had in mind, but it sure does fit the description of a unicycle.

Dear anonymous poster and all other people who are speaking about thoughts and chances.

4WD is best useful for rough terrian and off-road travel. and a dual drive is the best option for good and better roads. The mis-use of technology is stated on observing captions by manufacturers as all time 4WD.

Hope if people who are familiar with 4WD ( not by driving but on technology) can understand the additional friction that is developed while driving all the wheels.

More over I believe that there are vehicles with shifting options for regular drive and 4WD, that can resolve the losses but why do we need an all time 4WD is and was my question.

I request again over the crazy people not to give funny or fancy answers, this might spoil the cause of the site.

Okay now that you've narrowed the scope. In our area of the world and in various seasons we may experience driving conditions of a spectrum including high to less than safe traction intermittently on our high speed roadways. This situation and our experience using 2WD leads us to believe AWD or all time 4WD is helpful technology.
