Load Tap Changer

02/12/2011 3:43 PM

Is there someone with bad experience with Ferranti Packard LTC? we have changed the diverter switch of the LTC few years ago for lagging reasons. Now the new one exihbiting the same problem, the winding resistance test shows open circuit and it sounds the lagging problem of the diverter switch. Every time we change is a $30,000 cost. Now Siemens took over Ferranti Packard and they are not repairing for spring tension or any problem, but they sell the replacement diverter as the whole assembly. any one with this experience, any feed back.

Thanks

One approach is to look into the matter when all goes wrong but the sensible thing is to do periodic inspections and preventive maintenance.

Why does the LTC is overworked, check that the datum operating values for the LTC are correct. Find out the effects, mitigate the real cause.

Can you provide the LTC model? Was there no failure analysis the first and/or last time the switch was replaced?

Ferranti Packard, Model 25 RT62, the only problem is the diverter switch lagging and creates open circuit (make before break function not happening because of a lagging problem)

Thanks,
