Silt Density Index

02/14/2011 7:14 AM

hello all, I read in net that Silt Density Index is an test for measuring the fouling of RO membrane. Please clarify about whether this test is used to find the quality of RO membrane(which is working) or to determine the quality of water by using standard RO membrane.

Could be both.

As lynlynch pointed out this can be used in both instances. However it really should be performed prior to selecting the RO membranes/ pretreatment steps. Nothing to stop you from performing this test after the RO have been installed - a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

There is also a standard on how to perform this test. Probably worth while getting if you are going to do this.
