02/17/2011 2:50 AM

Hai,

Everybody knows each and every mobile phones having different types of chargers and outpu the terminal pins. One cannot use another mobiles charger.

What is the need of it? If everything becomes same it will be more benificial to all of us or wrong? We will also reduce the E-waste.

That's a good start. There are thousands of things that I wish they would standardize. Sure would make life easier.

Since the best of these things are very inefficient, why are they even allowed if energy conservation is at all important? -- JHF

I agree with all of you guy. Yes as somebody said there are alot of things which should be standardized.

I ask the same question about Car parts. If you talk about exterior things like head lights body parts back lights etc so there is a reason which is "look" but I say we can still standardize few models from all manufacturers with different brand names eg starting from suzuki to mercedes and BMW all should have same dimesions and design for these models so that we can interchange parts and can get varity of qualities for the same part also it will bring the price lower to a great extent.

Give up on auto standardization. We used to have the same headlight bulbs, but even in Model T days, auto companies wanted to seem special and headlights were often the easiest and most obvious symbol.

Commercialization limits standardization

The need of this was to ensure income for mobile phone manufacturers, for ensuring that a customer keeps coming back to the outlet to buy a charger and is again tempted into the same brand again.

Also following standardization of chargers (like a generic pharma market) a lot of players will jump into the market with "cheapest" being their target, this will kill the phone manufacturers exclusivity!

Another example is the standardization of headphones in mobile phones (also a very recent concept)

Oh, the woes of industrialization :)

It'll never happen. Manufacturers will lose money. Nuff said.

Not that I don't trust big business or big government, but in my mind the real reason for standardizing is to not send a charger with a new phone, but not reduce the price. This will also generate sales of new chargers whereas they are give aways now. -- JHF

Please check

http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/57468/US-Trimmer-Adaptor-in-India

1. All the personal battery operated trimmers' & Mobile-Phone chargers are same in internal design [Voltage & current rating] and only differ in the out-put plug. May be used by changing of out-put plug without any reservation.

2. All Laptops [most names] have the 19~20VDC output [in current ratings differ] have different out-put connector.

Some manufactures have a 3rd pin to sense and control charging but other ratings are compaible.

You will be astonished to note that Laptops using so called 6 cell batteries [~ 10V] are using the same 19/ 20 V chargers.

So any properly rated voltage and current rated can be modified to use at much lower cost.

See the different connectors in the output
