Transformer Secondary Tap

02/17/2011 2:59 PM

I have a unit substation that is 13.2kV 1000kVA to 480Y277V. This is an existing installation with a fused disconnect on the primary side and no disconnect on the secondary side of the xfmr. With that said the secondary of the xfmr hits a bus and that has 9 circuit breakers that feed typical loads.

The primary is controlled by a fused disconnect switch. Would the tap rule come into to play and limit me to only 6? Would the MV cable be considered my service entrance feeder and my fused disconnect switch be the building disconnecting means? The substation is owned by the owner. This is in a supervised location.

Well since this transformer is placed between Iceland and Scotland to power the SOSUS listening array I recommend that you refer to the U.S. Navy documentation on underwater power distribution protocols.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Follow the standard for your region.

Well the post does not exclude my absurd selection, so I felt free to choose this absurdity. Why I felt that I should pick such an absurdity is that I've gotten very tired of anonymous guests asking us to advise them how to do very hazardous work with little to no information offered by the OP. Working on a substation must be done only by authorized individuals for their location. While there are authorized people here at CR4 for wherever the OP works, CR4 is NOT the proper channel to obtain an authorized answer to any question.

Oh...I am the C5I engineer at NOPF Whidbey Island, a SOSUS station. Just thought I would ask.

What a coincidence. I'm glad to meet you. You've just proved one of my points. There are qualified and authorized people here to do almost any engineering task. As you know, a public forum is not where people should get any authorized information. I work as an Electrical Engineer at the NSLS.
