Diesel Generator

hi everyone

i am talking about usual diesel generators(distribution) used in home and small needs .

i want to know about diesel generator basic operating principle,regarding whether it also needs field excitation?and how it is accomplished??

basic principle eh?? ok.. first, you need to have your fuel necessary for your engine to start(obviously) second, you need to have a field excitation. this is done by applying dc voltage and current to your field armature... third, make sure you have made enough excitation by running it idle for few minutes... connect load when excitation is enough, this way your generator could operate smoothly..
