Snuppy the clone dog

08/03/2005 2:26 PM

South Korea announced the first successful dog cloning. They are hoping that it will lead to better stem cell research that will prolong the lives of dogs.

They did make the following disclaimer:
"This is not for cloning your pets," Siegel said. "This is an important piece of animal research." Siegel added just as stem cell research, the heart of the cloning effort, can be used to explore human disease, so can it be applied to veterinarian medicine."

I like how they used a Golden Retriever as a surrogate mother. When an Afgan pops out of a golden retriever, you know you've suceeded at something.
