Radiomarelli TV Set

02/26/2011 9:51 AM

I have a Radiomarelli TV set which has this fault!

When I give mains power to the set, it tries to switch on standby but immediately refrains from this.

The Standby LED only blinks briefly.

At first I thought its the switch contacts but I verified by testing the switch using DMM.

Anyone has an idea on what part or component could be faulty?

Thanks Guys

It may be a shorted capacitor in the medium voltage power supply, when the set powers up the short is detected and the set shuts down as a protective measure. Other shorts, like pinched wires, blown transistors, etc can do the same.

By the time I read your reply I have already found a tantalum cap of value (1n J 1600) which physically looks burnt out. Infect one leg dropped out while de-soldering it. I will have to wait until after the weekend to buy one & replace it. Hope there aren't more faults but this makes sense as the capacitor is connected to a large transistor in the power supply section. I assume it was turning off the transistor. We'll see when I replace it.

Anyway thanks for your reply!!
