03/02/2011 2:05 AM

hello sir, Can anyone help me with informing me, how much pressure i can apply to a piezo electric crystal. Basically i'm doing a project on gait analysis using piezoelectric sensor.

All crystals made across the world can not have the uniform pressure withstanding specification, And it is normally specified by manufacturer, But if you specify the part number and manufacturer name of the crystal probably members who used that product may help you in some way.

Thank you sir for your reply. I couldnt find any part number or manufacturers name on the piezoelectric transducer (usually used as buffers) which is available in the market.

Idea is, provide maximum possible information so that others can help you, for example if you don't know anything about that product you can upload an image of that with a scale at its side, uploading image is not a big deal now a days as most of the internet users do keep cell phones with cam, Also you can find out a smiler picture on google and provide link on forum. And keep on thinking and you get many more ways.

Look at miniature "piezo electric FORCE transducers" and you will find a lot of sources. I want to warn you you want to analyse a quite low change force distribution and crystals due to their function are more able to analyse fast change phenomena. I would recommend transducers based either on strain gages or on "piezo resistance changes" (Bridgemann effect) which can accept from static forces (pressures) to high dynamics. Such transducers are already used with success in the field you want to investigate. Look at "FlexiForce" or equivalent which could be, on my opinion, the best solution for your problem.
