What Part of the World Should I be Living Considering Less Energy Consumption?

03/04/2011 6:52 AM

I kinda wonder, thinking about energy savings. Where should I be living with less energy to consume. Is it on the tropics or tundra region of the earth?

I'm sure there are other places, but I like Costa Rica. Depending on the climate you like, you can live at a certain altitude and go without heat or air conditioning all year long and be comfortable. A big savings.

Costa Rica is great. But if you are going to use that automatic mosquito smashing device, the cost of used energy will, soon, deplete your savings....

Most people just go back and live with their parents.

To boil water you need heat to increase temperature at 100 deg C, the body maintains at 36 deg C. Energy differs at point of reference or surrounding. Running a car at say 10 deg C ambient temperature, would practically consume more energy than running it at 30 deg C surrounding.

This is actually the concept of Availability. Colder countries consume more energy than the tropics.

It made think, how much barrel of crude oil per capita would be the difference living in tropics than in tundra countries. 2x, 3x or maybe 4x?

The concept of saving energy will be completely pointless if the location you choose has a higher cost of living associated with everything else related to the live there.

It takes more energy to live where I do but I also have an endless supply of free wood that I heat my place with so the cost of living here plus the avoided cost of heating fuel makes where and how I live a very cost effective place to be.
