Transformer Losses

03/08/2011 5:44 AM

For a 1600 KVA dry type Transformer no load losses should be less than 2.5 KW and full load losses should be less than 13.5 KW

The above is mentioned in our technical specifications. But this is not derived from IS codes on transformers. Can anyone give the basis or document reference number for the above statement

In Canada the efficiency of transformers is regulated in CAN/CSA-802.2-06.

Last time I checked the efficiency of a 1500kVA power transformer was required to be less than 99.02% at a BIL of 96kV. That is 14.7 kW @ 50% name plate rating so I doubt a 1600kVA transformer at 100% load is less than 13.5kW.I generally tend to shy away from specifying exact numbers and rather provide a percentage in that type of situation.
