Cable Costs??

03/16/2011 9:41 AM

All cable related input is total rip off.

Example: Why would you have to rent a box that gives you high def when you can get it from a simple HD antenna without having to plug in 3 cables or and HDMI cord etc. The antenna gives you highdef with a simple coax connection.

Why would you pay for HBO, Cinimax, or Starz when you can get streaming video on most movies from either Netflix or Blockbuster or any of the many other options available. Crackle is free.

Get a dongle device such as a Toshiba Blue Ray player or a recently manufactured LCD, LED, or Plasma television that either comes with a built in dongle or is dongle ready. Then you can choose from many sources of entertainment.

If ESPN had their act together they would be streaming live through the internet for a fee like they do with ESPN3.

Ultimately everything should be wireless. Cable never should have happened in the first place.

Find a technocrat and learn about all of the other options. The winner in this contest is going to be the one that is least greedy. If they have the working capital they can get the whole bag. Cable could be broadcasting over the air and charge people for the filter they want for the specific entertainment they want.

You're a little late to the party if you've just now discovered that the cable company sucks.

Most of us have known that for years, if not decades.

We'll get back to you with a more detailed solution between the hours of 9AM and 5PM, between Monday and Wednesday of next week. You must be home during these hours to receive the solution. Our customers are important to us. Please have a nice day.

I don't pay for cable. I use an over the air antenna for the basics in HD for free. I pay 9 bucks for netflix a month. I'm thinking about paying 9 for hulu a month. I do pay the cable company for internet, but my cost after netflix and internet is only 40 a month. I don't have very much time to watch tv, thus couldn't justify spending nearly 100 a month on cable and internet. That being said, if you did have the time to watch tv, you'd be disappointed by netflix rather quickly. The things they have to instant stream aren't exactly the best. They have some decent tv series, but really, i'd say after a month netflix wouldn't cut it. Sure netflix has alot of content, but most of it is rubbish. However, I do love that there are no adds on netflix, which hulu cannot claim. Redbox, Netflix and my hd antenna are enough for my needs, but I miss my favorite channels, History, Discovery, Travel, Food Network.

Everything you are saying was already done once...it was/is called satellite. It's still around, for about the same crappy price as cable. Sure, the dishes are a hell of a lot smaller, but it's still the same deal. Too much rain? No TV. Great, now I can't go outside and do anything AND the TV doesn't work.

My HBO on demand from Comcast (which is way cheaper than my Cox was) has tons more shows than are available online, even from the Xfinity on demand site. There are licensing restrictions for most movies and show out there. Besides, most Americans haven't figured out how to configure a web appliance to stream to their television. Best Buy doesn't tell you how to do that. That would undercut the cable market.

Over the air transmissions? Been there, done that. There isn't enough bandwidth to carry every channel out there, even if broadcast in the HD spectrum. Over half of the US population lives too far away from or has no clear line of sight for broadcast television...that's what gave birth to cable.

Walking and riding a bike is also free. In this counrtry, we drive cars. We like to spend money and waste resources, apparently.
