Elbow Pipe Bevelling And Sliding Angle Cold Cutting

03/30/2011 12:32 PM

Dear all,

Kindly share your advice/suggestion/recommendation for cutting and beveling of different elbows in 30, 45, 60 and 90 degrees. Elbow sizes are quite big ranging from dia 8" to 30" with elbow radius in 1D and 1.5D. Max thickness is up to 60mm.

In practical, we are doing in manual and it takes long time to finish it. I have thought if the auto cold cut and bevel machine is replaced, the workers will less tired and more safety and the productivity will be more.

Pls kindly advise me if you have experienced on such type of machine.

[I have searched in the net that type of machine for quite some time and I could find only ready made elbow fittings. :( ]

Thanks and best regards,

Kotuu2

Are you referring to what I call a trimmed elbow?

Assuming you are, we make these in our fab shop all the time from 16" and down we cut the elbow at the desired degree on a large band saw, after the cut we grind in 37.5 degree or what ever bevel angle is desired. We can make larger ones but that would require flame or plasma to make the cut which is no problem just more labor intensive. Of course you may be referring to a mitred elbow and these are labor intensive.

I can give you more information on this if I am on the right track?

Hello PI,

Firstly, I would like to express my thanks for your kind response.

Absolutely, I referred to a trimmed elbow. We want to do cold cutting. Could you let me see any picture or video file during cutting elbow pipes with band saw?

Btw, for grinding, do you use automatic grinding machine or manual one?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks,

Kotuu2.

dear KOTUU2,

We can bevel straight pipes from .5"up to 48" with wall tickness up to 40 mm in one pass by machining. This can be done very quickly. Perhaps we also could do that for elbows, clamping will be the issue.

if you like me to do some research on this, then tell me some more about the cycle times, batch sizes, measurements and so on.
