Thermal Power Plant

03/31/2011 2:24 PM

Pls explain me how MW output is increased from generator?

For example a 500MW generator:

if it is synchronized with grid at 50MW, how can we take it to 500MW+?

What is relationship between steam input and MW

MW output from generator closely related to speed of the prime mover of generating system which in turn related to the steam flow (pressure). The load on a turbine generating unit does not remain constant and can vary as per consumer requirement. The mismatch between load and generation results in the speed (or frequency) variation. When the load varies, the generating system also has to vary to match it to keep the speed constant. This job is done by the governing system.

Governing system controls the steam flow to the turbine in response to the control signals like speed variation and load (power) variation.
