Question About BMS Design

04/09/2011 12:04 PM

Hi mates,

Already posted this in Instrumentation site but it should better be here. I am a new comer in this field even I used to work with the DCS one year ago. Now, I have chance to work with the electrical sub-contractor who will install the BMS for the business office.

It is known that BMS is quite similar to that of DCS, isn't it? Could anyone helps by pointing out how many types of documentation or showing me formal design procedure required for this system?

My guess the first thing is about the Engineering basic requirement covering how many I/O included in this system.

For the contractor, they will not need to care much about the system because what they need to do is to do the correct connection according to the connect list. Does this sound right?

I'm guessing that you're using BMS to mean a Business Management System, that is a computer for the business end of the business?

And you're talking about the physical installation of this system (not software or hardware design, configuration, or similar), right?

So, first question: did the designer's of the system (those who did the software and hardware design, configuration, and so forth)--did they provide you with installation specifications, drawings, and the like?

Or do they expect the installation contractor to do that work, either making the design drawings and specifications or installing the system without them?

A knowledgable person / company could do that for a standalone PC, but if this is any kind of extensive system, you need to have installation specifications and drawings from the system designer or his engineer.

(For a PC in a business setting, you do want to make sure it's installed properly, considering such things as surge suppressors, proper grounding for safety and to avoid electrical noise, possible use of a UPS for continuity of service, and such.)

I thought this was about Bristol Meyers Squib.

Ok, so how is that similar to a Direct Current Supply?

Alright, I am hit by Redfred. DCS means Distributed Control System.

UPS is an essential part of the design ensuring the continuous operation for the whole system, I think. But I am referring to the Building Management System where the building is controlled and supervised in a control room.

All sort of thing like security, lighting control, HVAC control and other things are automatically managed.

BMS ( Building Management systems) are crucial for optimizing building performance.Direct Digital Control (DDC) Temperature Control System along with Motor Control Panels where required are used to automatically control the operation of the entire Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning System together with other parts of the Building Services Installation .A fully integrated BMS incorporates direct digital control (DDC) for energy management, equipment monitoring and control. BMS systems need to comply with protocols such as BACnet (Building Automation & Control Networks protocol. If you need std BMS specfication I can send it.

Hoy Mate,

You sure do get around. I've seen your posts on a zillion CR4 sections in the past.
