Reset Button

04/25/2011 2:03 AM

I change the casing with the new one, but when I pressed the Reset button, the CPU fan also started later this time, and when it starts, the system shuts down, a few seconds after that, the system starts and shuts, and starts and shuts continuously.
I had to unplug my PSU and pluged it in again, start the system, and it turned on just fine. the problem is that when I use the reset button, the above thing repeats.
Any suggesstion to solve the problem.

Don't use the reset button.

A problem ignored is not a problem solved (unless you are management).

Hard to say exactly what the problem is but it sounds like your reset button is sticking (closed) causing intermittent reset signals to your motherboard.

I had a similar problem because the computer case was slightly warped which caused the hole the reset button sticks out of to move out of alignment and catch on the hole.

Try re-adjusting the case and if necessary the reset button bracket. Let us know if that fixes it.

I had this problem exactly, back in 2004, and as Jack mentioned it could be that the reset (or start) buttons is stuck on the closed-circuit position, due to faulty manufacturing or mechanical fault.

However, it could be that the case-wiring to the front panel is damaged and two (or more) wires are shorting, or as the case may be, not compatible with the front-panel ports at the edge of your Motherboard.

What I would do is try to simulate the power and reset buttons using external momentary switching, even by manually cross-wire the ports, in order to determine if the case is faulty

Thank you all. I arrange back the reset cable and the problem solved. Maybe the potential cause it touch the casing.
Will update if the problem occurs again
