Properties of #2 Fuel Oil

05/07/2011 6:52 AM

Does anyone know a website that could tell me how long it takes #2 home heating oil to evaporate if spilled on concrete (less than a gallon) and how slippery it would be on concrete?

I don't know of any specific web sites for your question but here are some general quidelines: How long it takes to evaporate would depend on several factors such as ambient temperature, the temperature of the concrete, exposure of the fuel oil and concrete to wind and sunlight. Cleaning a small amount of spilled fuel oil could involve spreading an absorbant such as cat litter over the material, letting it sit for about an hour, sweeping it up, disposing of the spoils according to local guidelines, and cleaning the rest up with a mild detergent. And (CYA), check with your local fire department and environmental agencies before proceeding.

By the time you read this, most, if not all, of the fuel oil will probably be gone through evaporation.
