Gmail Chat Problem

05/12/2011 1:31 AM

Hi guys,

Iam facing a problem with my Gmail chat. It was working fine until I installed firefox and started using chat in that. Even after installing firefox, the chat worked fine for two-three days. Then one fine day, it started giving problems. The person on the other end is not able to hear me, at all. But I can hear clearly. I tried the volume adjustments, reconfiguring the inputs, uninstalling firefox and all. Yesterday I reformated my system also as a final measure. But still no use.

I tried the voice recorder to check if my mic was the problem maker. But that is also working fine. I am able to hear what i record using the mic.

I have run out of options. Any clues???

Pardon my ignorance, but i have been using Googletalk as a standalone program, here is an image from my laptop. Where do Firefox or IE come in? i have both as my browsers, default being Firefox.

I found this. http://www.google.tk/support/forum/p/chat/thread?tid=70b86ecf69c104ef&hl=en

If you google chat problems with firefox, many hits come up.

There seems to be a lot of people unhappy with firefox lately.

They also appear to be obtaining MS ability to respond quickly to users complaints. Why else would they come to us instead of the Firefox web sites for help.

Did anything else change on your PC between installing the updated Firefox and the problem?

IE - did you install (or remove) any other software?

- Did Microsoft install any 'updates'?

No, I didnt install any new software. Also my automatic update feature is set not to update. So microsoft also would not have been able to install any new updates.

I now reformated a third time and am still facing the problem. Now when I use my voice recognition tool along with the chat application, it works fine..

But the only problem is, each time I have to use them both simultaneously..

Have you tried their respective help lines?

Since you will have two applications accessing the sound card simultaneously it sounds like a conflict between the two applications......

There may be some specific settings necessary to allow this sharing to occur.
