Copper Pulverizing Question

04/11/2007 3:42 PM

Would you tell me if can copper be pulverized? I am doing research into this very popular metal as quite a few years ago, copper was mined in this area, therefore it is known as the Copper Country. Also, would you tell me how to contact a company or a few company's who manufacture metal detectors, please? I would like to have one manufactured that meets my specifications. You can send your reply to ldepuydt@charter.net Thanks, Louie of Michigan's Upper Peninsula

If you want serious replies you will have to add more detail to your post ref the pulverizing of copper. Why does it need pulverizing? Their are hundreds of designs for metal detectors posted to the web hit (google search)( metal detector).

Copper is a very ductile metal, as everyone knows. With my experiment, consisting of mainly copper, I would like to know how small a piece of copper will be in weight (milligrams or grams) to be totally pulverized? I am doing research into this very popular metal as quite a few years ago, copper was mined in this area, therefore it is known as the Copper Country. Also, would you tell me how to contact a company or a few company's who manufacture metal detectors, please? I would like to have one manufactured that meets my specifications. I still fail to understand WHY PULVERISE Yes copper is a soft metal "Ductile" you can not pulverise a soft metal. By the very nature of the process you need a brittle material to pulverise it. (Pulverise to reduce to powder, smash to pieces). You simply can not do this to copper. You can beat it into a thinner gauge you can file it to produce little flakes but definitely not pulverise it. You can pulverise concrete stone etc.
