Fiber Optic Cable

05/28/2011 12:04 PM

How to order fiber optic cable our spec call for at least 6 fibres less than 15km for single mode this is for main fiber optic cable. Hereunder are the specs;

single mode, index-gradient: 125um

core diameter: 9+/-10um

cladding diameter: 125+/-1um

coating diameter: 250 +/- 10um

Non circularity of the core <3%

Non circularity of the cladding <1.5%

Concentricity deviation < 0.75um

Max. attenuation of the signal at 1310nm<0.4dB

Dispersion coefficient at 1310nm <3.5ps/nm

max. attenuation of the signal at 1550nm<0.23dB

dispersion coefficient at 1550nm<18ps/nm

Cut off wavelength<1280nm

Optical specs should probably be quoted per km?

you will probabaly need to quote some Mecahnicals.

Minimum single run length.

Ease of termination.

Do you want multiple drops?

Bending radius of fibre AND complete cable.

Crush strength of fibre and complete cable.

Environmental specs.

Pull strength.

How do you detemine whether a cable has been mishandled after the pull?

Many of these mechanicals will be depend upon how you intend to install the cable, whether it is in a duct, whether there is a posibility of further fibres / cables at a later date.

You will have your own Ts & Cs to accomapnythe Spec, these need to be examined to avoid 'interference' between them

And so on.

Good Luck

As stated in the earlier response. the fiber parameters are per kilometer. What you have quoted (per km) is effecively the standard values for almost every outside plant Single Mode fiber cable commercially avalable. The main question is where is it to be installed: buried, in ducts, strung on a wire, hung between attachment points supporting itself, in water ways, in an industrial area where various chemicals can contact the cable, next to high voltage power lines, etc.. All of these influence what cable or cables the fibers need to be in.

Sir

The main fiber optic cable consist of at least 6 fibres it shall be install in PVC duct concrete encase the spec call for 2 cables for redundancy reasons is it possible to combine single mode and multimode cable so for outside we will use single mode as the core is 9um and it will be terminated on a patch panel from this patch panel fiber optic pigtails going to network switches. I dont know how to order these patch panel, fiber optic pigtails, main fiber optic cables is the one shown in previous thread is our main fiber optic cables? Also the spec that shown on the cables I dont know how to interpret it.

I would like to ask the help of gurus who specialize in this field.

There is still too little information to be able to estimate what you need. I suggest you talk to the people you are buying the end equipment from, and ask them what they think you need. Once there are some suggestions, many of us would be willing to evaluate the suggestions for appropriateness.

u have to talk and go thro the specs of 2-3 different eminent optical fibre cable suppliers. before talking to them, pl. refer on line recommendations of ITU(T). it is global standard.best wishes. if any problem in looking for ITU-T recommendations, u may contact me back. i shall try to search on line reference for u. thanq.
