Timer Search

06/02/2011 10:00 AM

I was going through the internet with several searches looking for the following item (not sure if it is made). I would like to find a timer that the preset time can be remotely set, with the timer inside cabinet and adjustments on the outside of door. Now I could do this with one of the cube PLC on the market and may have to. Just looking out of curiosity to see if anyone has run across such a thing.

I have access to industrial control vendors that we use for materials in our panel fabrication shop that can check on this but I will need additional info.

What are you trying to control?

How long of a time cycle do you need? 1 minute - 1 hour- 1 day, ect.

Single on/off cycle or multiple?

Do you need different schedules for each day of the week?

What operating voltage do you need?

Any contacts? Dry?

What rating do you need on the contacts (if required)?

What NEMA rating on the key pad (for the cabinet door)?

Based on your specification, two of my vendors have recommended an Intermatic FM-1D50E-120 (have not heard from the third vendor yet).

I will PM you with a contact name and phone number for Tech Support at Intermatic in the event you want to discuss this further with the manufacturer.

Hope this helps - Good Luck

If mounting through the door is acceptable, Rockwell has a nice digital multi-function timing relay here.

Anything other than a programmable relay is going to be a waste of money for that many outputs. The Siemens LOGO and the Idec Smart Relay (brand labeled LOGO) both have a remote mountable small HMI that can be used to set program times. I wouldn't waste time trying to do this with separate discrete devices, the general rule of thumb is 4 relays or 1 relay and 1 timer to justify the cost, you have already exceeded that.

The issue is not the number of outputs as I only need one. The real issue is the NEMA 7 explosion proof door mounted device to preset timers. Otherwise I place a Automation Direct low cost timer module in the door.

I think I will just go with PLC and do a 4-20 input off of a pot. This is the lowest cost and quickest way to get around the issues.

Hi Fix, Unitronics is the way to go

Check them out, you get a PLC for the price of just a bit more than a timer and you can programme it to do what you want, the software is free and the unit can be panel mounted

Cheers

Joe
