I have yet to read a concise deffinition of 'embedded system'.
To some it means a microcontroller/processor and it's asociated circuitry built into a product or system.
To others it means a PC or single board computer with commercial operating system built into a product or system.
For Joe public and sales/marketting men it's just buzzwords and jargon of which they have no understanding

Study 8051 microcontroller by Ayala. Study Architecture, instruction set and programming of 8051 first. Good luck.

There is no differences between pic, atmel, arm and their uses and application , there only differences in their purpose(s) of use, e.g. consumer, industrial,so-on.

I can only assume from this post that you have never used any of the above.
Just switching from Zilog to Hitachi microcontrollers or assembler to C can take many days of intense study.

The advanatage is created in, software, for non embedded systems. The true grasp of this hardware reaches to the need to access the potential of the hardware.

When installing an operating system if you compile the drivers with the kernal the services that the OS must use to reach a level of complete integration to the hardware at the binary level the use for these other systems can have a profound effect.

Windows installs it self to the hardware but the buffered layers to reach the hardware and the order in which those processes reach the hardware can cause latency.
