Saddle (Sliding) Support Location

06/17/2011 6:47 AM

What are considerations taken into account to fix the location of a sliding saddle in a horizontal vessel.

To my knowledge the sliding Saddle should be placed in the rear end of the vessel, considering thermal expansion which wll affect the piping in fornt of the vessel (If the Pump is placed inforont of the vessel).

Am I right..? What are the factors to considered in this regard..? please advice.

Yes you are right. But also take the following tips in consideration:

The contact face of the vessel support (Bottom part resting on the structure) shall be fully painted/coated an cleaned (Free from dirty) before installation.

Low friction sliding supports (PTFE/graphite sliding plates or rolled supports) with steel landing area shall be thoroughly cleaned before installation (any dirty will draticaly increase the friction)

Supports shall be checked for clearence between support and side/up- lift movement restriction guides.

Check if vessel is anchored correctly and can move freely without touching neigbouring lines.

In addition to the other response,

Leveling of vessel and the support (Slinding) is very important factor. Level alignment will help in smmoth expansion and contraction of the vessel with temperature change. It is better to use full face PTFE sheet in place of roller assembly as rolling elements get jammed with time and then they insert friction.
