Biogas Generation

06/20/2011 8:57 AM

I am exploring feasibility of a biogas generation plant from pig manure, in a tropical country.

I would appreciate much if some experienced people will give some ball park figures.

My questions:

1. How much kwh/day can be generated for a farm with 3000 pigs?

2. What ratio of manure to grass in order to achieve max output in digestor?

3. How big land area will be needed?

4. How big will the digestor tank be?

Much thanks in advance !

What method are you looking at for the gas production? Remember there is a large quantity of water in raw pig marure.

Google "biogas generation plant from pig manure" ...you'll get 100's of thousands of hits.

Look for a book by John Fry Its in the public domain and several websites have it available for download. Joh Fry was one of the early pioneers building methane digesters using manure and he has tables and formula to calculate gas yield from a goven tonnage of manure.

This is a widely researched subject so there is lots of material not to mention anecdotal evidence on UTube showing working installations.

I am hoping to build one using chicken manure because pigs would not be practical wher I intend to set up.

I would do a lot of web searching. There are many plants already designed. Maybe you could buy the designs or find them for free. Pig manure is the best for biogas. You are talking a lot of gas. Good luck.

Seems to me that you would want to concetrate the manure, so your area question is moot.
