Drilling A Die Plate

06/24/2011 1:21 PM

Hi all! Would anybody clarify/describe me what is optical polish, Mirror polish & gun drilled. These terms are used in case of drilling steel/metal alloy plates for pellet mills, making them into die. What alloy can be used other than chromium steel, which can resist shear?

"Gun Drilled", I would presume, would mean to drill with a gun drill. This is a special sort of drill with a hollowed center to allow cutting fluid (or air) to flow to the tip. These are usually used in long (deep) holes, as long as 300 diameters.

More about these here.
