I've worked on limekilns for over 20 years, oil, gas and coal fired. I've never heard of an electric furnace being used unless for very small batches of high purity lime. It just isn't practical on a commercial basis.
You have to have a way of distributing the heat through the lime, this is done by the passage of combustion gasses through the kiln burden or by the action of a rotary kiln.
