Why ground a battery with voltages of 12 and 24volts?

To reduce the amount of wiring required to provide a return path. Also by having the radio's return path at the same potential as the sheet metal, the sheet metal consistently works as a reflector for the antenna.

Thank you. I felt that it was an econmic reason however I didn't consider any contribution to RFI (if that's what your referring to)
