Stepper Motor

07/11/2011 6:21 AM

Respected sir\madam,
We students of Civil Engineering attempted a mini-project on the topic Building Automations. Unfortunately we have to stop the project abruptly due to lack of any technical assistance from electronics.
For the project, we designed a dam model whose gates are atomated and automatically detects the level of water and discharges it consecutively closes the gate.
To do so(as mentioned above), we are going to connect a stepper motor controlled by a predefined program through microprocessor.
Please provide us a programme that can be dumped and successfully run. The main details of the programme are:
1) the motor as soon as gets the electric signals from water level detector, it starts rotating(fixed no. of rotations.)
2) provide some time delay paremeter(say 30sec).
3) as the time expires the motor starts counter rotations for the same turns.

Pls provide us the details of the comaptible drivers and microprocessor chip for the choosen stepper motor.

You forgot the receiver address. Something like: Mr/mrs Santa etc. S.M.

Perhaps we could be more helpful if you give us a few details of what you have done so far.

While you put some effort into the question, I suggest to reformulate it. Such controller/motor modules ARE available in the market. No development beyond what you want them to do is needed, for some years. If you want to compete with them, better research the manufacturing and the market. Good luck to you.

Sir,

I'm civil engineering student so i dont understand the technicality of electronics completely. pls help me out in writing a stepper motor program. My project goes like this:

I have designed a dam model. Now I attached a water level indicator. If the water raises beyond certain level i take the signals to microprocessor which intended to make the motor to rotate. which is mechanically attached to the gates of the dam and the water in the dam gets discharged. After a certain time delay the motor rotates back to its position.

Is this possible . If possible pls help me.

thank you...

Is there anything wrong with a motor car electric window mechanism, some string, two limit switches and a delay timer? You would need all of that, except timer, if you used a microprocessor.

Why should a civil engineer require a microprocessor, software and a stepper motor? I have not heard of a stepper motor of real bridge size.
